Social theater as a path to active citizenship
Boučková, Markéta ; Moree, Dana (advisor) ; Šťovíčková Jantulová, Magdaléna (referee)
The thesis aims to study how civic actors of the theatre of the oppressed and playback theatre actively seek social change. It also examines how these methods differ and what their mechanisms are. The research sample includes 5 actors of theatre of the oppressed and 5 actors of playback theatre. Semi-structured interviews were used as the research method, using open coding as the analysis method. The main finding is that Theatre of the Oppressed functions primarily through the actors' awareness of their own oppression and their search for solutions to social problems through interactions with the audience. Playback theatre also draws primarily on audience interactions, but these are predominantly based on emotional connection and active listening. The difference in methods, then, is that theatre of the oppressed provides actors with reflection on their own experiences and validation from other members of the group; the audience's reactions to the performance and search for a common solution subsequently reinforce efforts for social change. In the case of playback theatre, it is all about understanding the emotions of others and using this connection to create a safe space that allows for community bonding and understanding of differing viewpoints. Křešničková, Pavla ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Zemanová, Blanka (referee)
This diploma discusses projects to enhance active citizenship among primary school pupils. The work seeks to describe the importance of education for active citizenship in primary schools, to map projects dedicated to deepening knowledge regarding the role of an active citizen, and at the same time to inspire interested teachers to incorporate this issue into their lessons. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part defines the concepts of citizenship and active citizenship, the goals of education for active citizenship, and its inclusion in the curriculum, as well as a description of two different projects devoted to this issue. The empirical part tries to answer several questions regarding the projects. First, it answers why it is essential to include education for active citizenship as early as the 1st grade of primary school. It further discusses the goals and risks of this inclusion. Lastly, the empirical part focuses on new and existing programs and initiatives that deepen the development of education for active citizenship among children in the 1st grade of primary school. This part is implemented using the method of in-depth interviews with people who deal with active citizenship and civic education in the Czech Republic and, at the same time, have...
Migrant women as active citizens
Jenková, Pavla ; Ezzeddine, Petra (advisor) ; Uhde, Zuzana (referee)
Diploma thesis tries to offer a new insight into migration and integration of migrant women living in Czech Republic by means of life-story telling of ten such women. By using this approach the author tries to deconstruct stereotypical understanding of migration as a threat or a security hazard for the accepting society, on the contrary she tries to picture migrant women and their life-stories as tales of people who consider Czech Republic their second home and who actively participate on its development. Citizenship is understood as a membership in society of which migrant women are also legitimate and active members. The thesis should contribute to building positive attitude towards migrant women in general and it also offers recommendations for the public as well as integration policy creators as to how migrant women can be reflected in context of migration.

Soukupová, Markéta ; Kopecký, Martin (advisor) ; Šerák, Michal (referee)
Folk high schools are adult education institutions established in Denmark in the 19th century, being known for their focus on specific values and approach to teaching. The diploma thesis covers the topic of folk high schools from the period of their establishment, throughout the historical evolution of the concept, until the current situation of folk high schools and their social function. The thesis examines the possibility of integration of the selected model of folk high school in Czech Republic, more specifically within the Municipal Library of Prague (MLP). At the theoretical level, it was identified that it is necessary to adapt the Czech legislation and provide a fixed financial cover, in order to incorporate the folk high school to the system of public libraries in reality. The place, where we live as a theme in civics
Svobodová, Eliška ; Dvořáková, Michaela (advisor) ; Fleischerová, Andrea (referee)
In my thesis I have dealt with the content knowledge of regionality in Civics at the lower secondary school and described the actual and former curricular contents of the topic "The place we live in". The present form of the curriculum lacks any mandatory comprehension that deals with this topic. I have examined the content knowledge of regionality from the point of view of regionalism, regional development and politics and thus described thoroughly the structure and classification of regions as it follows the syllabus. Researching the aforementioned subject I have created a hands-on teaching material, which covers 13 follow- up lessons, encouraging pupils to behave as active and responsible members of regional society.
The role of school in the process of forming an active citizenship through the eyes of Czech political activists
Černá, Anna ; Numerato, Dino (advisor) ; Matoušek, Petr (referee)
The aim of the text is a critical sociological analysis of the role of the institution of school in the process of forming an active citizenship which is perceived by the author as a specific pattern of behaviour acquired during socialisation. The participation model of democracy, from which stems the Czech educational curriculum, aims to raise informed and active youth adhering to democratic values. Formal education as one of the actors of secondary socialisation is the only publicly controlled tool of education of citizens. Although the citizenship education is formally a part of the curriculum, contemporary research in the Czech environment shows that school does not play a significant role in political socialisation of young people. For this reason, the author of the text looks at the formal education from a different perspective and discusses other aspects too. The key view for the author is the one of Czech political activists who she perceives as a necessary part of civil society and a prototype of active citizens. The analysis of the role of the institution of school is based on 26 deep interviews with representatives of political activist organisations. The author introduces school as an institution of citizenship education which on one hand fails in the political socialisation of the young, on the...
The Theatre of the Oppressed as a way to the Empowerment
Pejřimovská, Hana ; Moree, Dana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Tereza (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out how the participants of the Theatre of the Oppressed become empowered and how they use these experiences from the Theatre in other spheres of life. The research is based on a qualitative method and semi-structured interviews with open coding. The sample consists of Roma and non-Roma respondents. The results show that the necessary prerequisites for empowerment include meetings and dialogues with others, games and interventions, sharing of experiences and active work against oppression. In other dimensions of life, we can see personal empowerment manifest itself by higher self-confidence, advanced communication skills and responsible citizenship. In the professional sphere empowerment is presented in a work with a group, in a current job or in an involvement in new projects. For a civil society to thrive it is important that people from the majority society meet and work together with members of the minority groups. It is also essential to promote civil competences and social capital, meet with strongly engaged activists, open discussions in the public sphere and support the principle of taking responsibility for one's life and the life of the community. Key words: Theatre of the Oppressed, empowerment, active work against oppression, Roma and non-Roma people,...
